| Reverse description | Tyche, the personification of fortune and city-goddess, seated facing right upon a rocky riverbank, rendered in a draped, enthroned pose. At her feet, the river god Araxes is depicted as a swimming male figure moving to the right, representing the great river of Armenia and the city of Artaxata. The reverse legend in Greek characters frames the design, identifying the issuing monarch with his royal epithet. The composition reflects the Hellenistic artistic conventions prevalent in Armenian royal coinage of the first century BC. |
