| Obverse description | Facing Gorgoneion depicted full face at center, rendered with wild serpentine hair radiating outward across the aegis, the scaly surface of which frames the entire design field. The Gorgon's features are boldly modeled with wide-set eyes, a grimacing mouth, and pronounced facial structure characteristic of the apotropaic type favored in Pontic civic coinage. Serpents are visible intertwined within the hair, and the aegis border is rendered with overlapping scale-like feathers extending to the coin's periphery. The composition fills the flan entirely, with no legend present on the obverse. |
