| Obverse description | An aegis occupies the entire obverse field, its scaly surface rendered in fine detail with serpents coiling around the border. At the center of the aegis, facing the viewer full-front, is a gorgoneion depicting the head of Medusa with a broad, stylized face framed by serpentine hair. The apotropaic device is presented in the characteristic Hellenistic manner, with the gorgoneion serving as the focal point of the composition. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse. |
