Obverse description Facing head of Apollo rendered in archaic Greek style, with large almond-shaped eyes, carefully incised curling locks framing the face, and a serene, frontal expression characteristic of late Archaic coinage. The portrait fills the entire flan, the facial features boldly modelled in high relief despite the diminutive size of this fractional silver piece. The treatment of the hair and the frontality of the bust reflect the artistic conventions of Ionian mint workshops of the fifth century BC.
