| Obverse description | Bust of Bishop Sebastiano di Monfalcone facing right, depicted in clerical vestments with shoulder drapery rendered in parallel engraved lines, the hair flowing to the shoulder in the Renaissance manner. The effigy is set within a plain inner circle framed by a beaded border. The surrounding Latin legend reads + SEBAST + EPS + ET + PRINCIPS + LAV, identifying the bishop as both spiritual and secular prince of Lausanne. The die-work is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Savoyard hammered coinage. |
