| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke Nicolas Francis facing right, with long flowing hair and armor visible at the shoulder, set within a beaded inner circle. The effigy is rendered in a bold Baroque style characteristic of mid-17th-century Lorraine coinage struck in exile. A Latin legend runs along the outer rim, abbreviated and punctuated with raised dots, identifying the duke by his titles. |
