Reverse description Crowned shield of France bearing the fleurs-de-lis, flanked on the left by a crowned letter F and on the right by a crowned ermine spot, all three devices serving as royal emblems of François I. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown rendered in fine detail. Below the shield appears the mint differencing mark indicating the workshop of issue. The composition is framed by a circular Latin legend invoking the Christus vincit formula, a traditional acclamation of royal authority.
