Obverse description Facing right portrait bust of Francis I, crowned with an ornate royal crown, the hair rendered in fine parallel strokes falling to the shoulder. The effigy is depicted in the Renaissance style characteristic of early French testons, with delicate facial features in profile. The legend encircles the bust within a beaded inner border, reading FRANCISCV D G FRANCOR REX. A mint mark appears at the beginning of the legend.
