| Obverse description | Draped bust of Francis I facing right, wearing an elaborate crown, within a beaded inner circle. The king is depicted in Renaissance portrait style with detailed drapery at the shoulder. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, interrupted at the top by a small cross. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |
