| Obverse description | Crowned and draped bust of Francis I facing right, wearing a jewelled crown adorned with fleurs-de-lis and a richly ornamented collar, rendered in a late Gothic portrait style characteristic of the French Renaissance coinage. The king's features are depicted with fine detail, including flowing hair beneath the crown. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait, with the mint mark 'A' (Paris) visible at the base of the bust. The circumferential legend in Latin reads FRANCISCVS D G FRANCORV REX, identifying the issuer as King of France by the grace of God, interrupted by a crown above. |
