Obverse description Bare-headed, right-facing bust of Charles IX in three-quarter profile, wearing a damascened cuirass (armored breastplate with inlaid decoration), with a ruff collar visible at the base of the neck. The king's hair is rendered with fine detail, and the portrait reflects the refined Renaissance engraving style associated with the Paris mint under Jean II Beauvoisin. The circular legend surrounds the effigy, reading CAROLVS VIIII D G FRA REX, with the mint mark A visible at the base of the bust.
