Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of Duke Charles IV facing right, with flowing hair and a short beard, set within a beaded inner circle. The effigy displays finely engraved detail in the hair and drapery, rendered in the mannered style typical of early seventeenth-century Lorraine coinage. The circumferential Latin legend runs between the inner beaded circle and the outer toothed border, identifying the ruler and his titles.
