| Obverse description | Right-facing juvenile bust of Duke Charles III, crowned and armored, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style typical of mid-16th century Lorraine coinage. The effigy depicts the young duke in three-quarter armor with a prominent gorget and pauldron, his youthful features framed by flowing hair beneath an open crown. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, separated from the field by an inner beaded border. The portrait conveys the dynastic authority of the ruling house despite the duke's minority, consistent with regency-period coinage of this type. |
