Obverse description A highly ornate jewelled cross in high relief occupies the central field, decorated with intricate filigree scrollwork and cabochon-style gem settings at the terminals and centre. The design is inspired by medieval goldsmith work. A beaded border frames the entire field, with small engraver's marks visible at the base of the cross.

Reverse description The baptism of Christ depicted in high relief: John the Baptist stands to the left on a rocky bank, pouring water from a vessel over the head of Christ, who is shown kneeling in the River Jordan with a nimbus. A cross rises behind them, and a horizontal cartouche across the centre of the field bears the Latin inscription EGO SVM VIA ET. A beaded inner border separates the central scene from the outer legend.
