Reverse description A prominent cross on a long shaft occupies the central field, flanked by the Greek Christogram initials IC XC (Jesus Christ) and NI KA (conquers), arranged in the four quadrants formed by the cross arms. A marginal Kufic legend encircles the design along the periphery. The combination of a Latin-form cross with Greek christological acclamations and Arabic script exemplifies the syncretic numismatic tradition of the Norman Sicilian court.
