Reverse description The reverse displays a multi-line Arabic-script legend arranged in horizontal registers filling the entire field, typical of Timurid tanka coinage. The central inscription contains the Kalima or profession of faith along with the mint name Soltaniyeh and the regnal year in Hijri numerals. The lettering is executed in a compact naskh style, with the lines closely spaced across the flan. The die-work is characteristic of the Soltaniyeh mint output under Shahrukh, showing moderate relief with some flatness at the margins due to the irregular flan. No decorative border or marginal legend is present.

Additional information

Shahrukh — fourth son of Timur and ruler of the Timurid Empire from 1405 until his death in 1447 — spent much of his reign consolidating a fractured inheritance and deliberately shifting the empire's cultural center toward Herat. The Soltaniyeh mint, originally established under the Ilkhanids in the early 14th century as one of the most productive silver-striking facilities in the Islamic world, continued operating under Timurid authority and represents one of the western anchor points of Shahrukh's monetary network. The date range of this piece spans the last two decades of his rule, a period of relative internal stability after the suppression of rival Timurid claimants.
