Additional information

Muhammad bin Firuz Shah Tughlaq — not to be confused with his far more capable grandfather Firuz Shah Tughlaq — ruled amid the terminal fragmentation of Tughlaq authority, with provincial governors effectively autonomous and the Delhi treasury under persistent strain. The fractional tanka denominations issued during this period reflect genuine monetary stress: billon coinage of debased silver flooded the market as the sultanate struggled to maintain transactional credibility in a shrinking real economy.

At 7.2 mm, this is an exceptionally small struck piece, demanding careful die alignment that Tughlaq mints of this late period did not consistently achieve.
