Obverse description Armored half-length effigy of King Stefan Batory facing right, wearing an ornate royal crown and richly decorated armor with a scepter visible at left. The date 15-80 is divided across the field on either side of the bust. A beaded inner circle borders the central design, with the Latin circumferential legend reading STEPHANVS D G REX POLONIAE arranged around the periphery, separated by small decorative stops. The portrait is rendered in a robust Renaissance style characteristic of late sixteenth-century Polish royal coinage.
