| Obverse description | Laureate and armored bust of King Władysław IV Vasa facing right, wearing an ornate crown and richly decorated royal regalia with a prominent collar. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the baroque style characteristic of mid-17th century Polish coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait within the beaded border, reading the king's full royal titulature. |

| Additional information |
Władysław IV minted talers at Gdańsk throughout the 1630s and 1640s largely because the city's mint was one of the few in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth capable of producing high-quality large silver on a reliable basis. Gdańsk operated with considerable autonomy — the city jealously guarded its minting privileges as part of broader negotiations over trade rights and royal taxation, meaning each issue effectively required a political accommodation between the Crown and the city council.
The 1643 date falls late in Władysław's reign, three years before his death in 1648 and the subsequent Cossack uprisings that fractured the Commonwealth's finances entirely.
