Reverse description The crowned civic arms of Gdańsk occupy the central field, the shield bearing two silver crosses on a red field beneath a royal crown, supported on either side by rampant lions. An elaborate foliate and floral spray rises above the shield toward the inner legend border. The mintmaster's initials D·L appear flanking the base of the shield, with the date 1685 displayed in an ornamental cartouche at the bottom of the inner field. The surrounding Latin legend MONETA ARGENTEA CIVITATIS GEDANENSIS proclaims this a silver coin of the city of Gdańsk.
