Časnički dom — an officers' mess — was a fixture of Austro-Hungarian garrison life, and Bjelovar was a significant military town in the Croatian Military Frontier region, housing the headquarters of the Đurđevac (Georgievac) Regiment. These mess coupons functioned as internal scrip, issued to officers against their account balances and redeemable only within the establishment for meals. They never entered general circulation and were treated as disposable once used, which is precisely why so few survive.
