Obverse description Hammered gold flan of irregular circular form bearing a prominent tughra-style cartouche occupying the upper portion of the field, enclosing the royal titulature of Sultan Selim I in bold Arabic script. Beneath the cartouche, a second line of Arabic legend records the mint name Aleppo (Halab) and the Hijri regnal year 924. The overall layout follows the standard Ottoman sultani die design, with the inscription disposed across two registers within an outlined frame, the flat surrounding field left plain. The die is off-centre, leaving a broad blank area to the left, characteristic of hand-struck hammered coinage of the period.
