Reverse description A floriated cross pattée occupies the centre of the field, with the four angles each containing alternating charges of a lion passant and a fleur-de-lis, referencing the heraldic traditions of the Duchy of Guelders and the House of Egmond. The cross is elaborately decorated in the Gothic manner, consistent with Netherlandish numismatic design of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which runs the circumferential Latin legend in Gothic characters. The overall composition displays the characteristic irregularity of hand-hammered planchet production.
