Obverse description Central device comprising a heraldic shield bearing a rampant lion to the left, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of 13th-century Low Countries coinage. The lion is depicted with raised forepaw and pronounced mane, occupying the full field of the shield. The shield is set within a circular border, with the abbreviated legend disposed around the periphery in uncial characters. The overall style reflects the influence of English sterling coinage on the monetary issues of the Brabantine lordship of Daelem.
