Obverse description Facing crowned bust of the bishop within a beaded inner circle, rendered in the Gothic hammered style characteristic of late 13th-century ecclesiastical sterling coinage. The effigy is depicted frontally, wearing a crown with fleurs, the facial features stylized and of low relief consistent with the period. The surrounding field between the beaded circle and the outer legend border is plain. A circular Latin legend in uncial characters runs along the periphery, reading MONETA DE TVIN, denoting the mint of Thuin.

Reverse description Long cross with three pellets in each of the four angles, dividing the reverse field into quadrants in the manner of contemporary English and Low Countries sterlings. The cross extends to the inner beaded circle, with groups of three pellets arranged symmetrically in each canton. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design along the coin's periphery, reading hVGONIS EPISC, identifying Hugh (of Chalons) as bishop. The overall type closely follows the Edwardian sterling prototype adapted for the Prince-bishopric of Liège.
