Obverse description A prominent ear of barley or wheat rendered in high relief occupies the central field, the grain head pointing upward with individual kernels clearly delineated in a naturalistic Celtic style. The abbreviated legend CAMV, referencing the mint city of Camulodunon (modern Colchester), is divided across the field with CA to the left and MV to the right of the stalk. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hammered Celtic coinage of the early first century AD. The fields are plain and unadorned, focusing visual emphasis entirely on the botanical motif.
