Obverse description Bust of Athena in right profile, rendered in fine high relief, wearing a smooth Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, with the cheekpieces raised. Wavy locks of hair escape beneath the helmet and fall in flowing curls behind the neck. The legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ is inscribed in Greek characters along the right field, reading downward. The portrait displays the refined artistic style characteristic of the Timoleontic coinage of Syracuse, combining idealized beauty with martial dignity.
