| Obverse description | Boeotian shield depicted in high relief, presented in full-face view with characteristic curved cutouts on either side forming the distinctive incurved oval shape. The shield's convex boss dominates the central field, rendered with fine die-work typical of the Theban mint. The design fills the flan with bold, sculptural presence, with the shield's rim and side notches crisply delineated against the plain field. The style is consistent with the mature Classical period coinage of Thebes. |
