| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Sauromates II facing right, rendered in three-quarter frontal view with finely detailed hair and drapery folds visible at the shoulder. A beaded border encircles the design. The regal effigy displays a full beard and a diadem tied at the back, characteristic of Bosporan royal portraiture of the period. The Greek legend ΒΑCΙΛΕΩC CΑΥΡΟΜΑΤΟΥ — meaning 'of King Sauromates' — runs around the periphery of the field. |
