Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of King Sauromates II facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic tradition with long wavy hair and a full beard visible in profile. The effigy is set within a beaded border, with the royal diadem clearly distinguished atop the head. The legend encircles the portrait in Greek characters along the upper and lower periphery of the flan. The style reflects the mixed Greco-Barbarian artistic conventions characteristic of Bosporan royal coinage of the early third century AD.
