Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of King Sauromates II facing right, rendered in the Greco-Roman provincial style with flowing hair and beard. The effigy displays characteristically loose, striated drapery at the shoulder. A Greek legend surrounds the bust, reading ΒΑϹΙΛΕΩϹ ϹΑΥΡΟΜΑΤΟΥ, identifying the issuing monarch. The portrait occupies the full field of the flan, with the legend disposed around the periphery. The style reflects the blended Hellenistic and local artistic tradition of the Bosporan royal coinage.
