Obverse description Helmeted head of Athena in right profile, her hair loosely flowing with a single tie at the neckline and upswept at the temple, adorned with a triple-pendant earring and necklace. She wears a crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, the bowl decorated with a griffin leaping right. An owl with spread wings stands facing in the left field behind her head, with the letter A below the neck truncation.

A thunderbolt lies on the ground to the left at her feet. The reverse legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΠΥΡΡΟΥ, identifying the issuing king Pyrrhus, is disposed in the field.
