| Obverse description | Youthful laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine high relief with elegantly detailed curling hair bound by a laurel wreath whose leaves are naturalistically rendered. The portrait displays the idealized Hellenistic style characteristic of the Macedonian royal mint tradition, with a smooth, fleshy cheek, well-defined chin, and a slightly parted lip. The neck is cleanly truncated at the base, set against a plain, smooth field. The die work is of exceptional quality, reflecting the skilled engravers active at the Colophon mint during the reign of Philip III Arrhidaeus. |
