Perikle was among the most aggressive of the Lycian dynasts, conducting military campaigns that extended Lycian influence well beyond the Xanthos valley during the 370s and 360s BC. His coinage is notable for being issued under a ruler who maintained genuine independence at a moment when Persian satrapal pressure on western Anatolia was intensifying.
