Obverse description Ba`altars, the principal deity of Tarsus, enthroned left on a backless throne with feet resting on a low footstool, rendered in frontal facing view with the head facing the viewer. The deity holds an eagle with outstretched wings in the raised right hand and a long grounded scepter in the left. The left leg is drawn slightly back beneath the throne. An Aramaic letter O appears in the left field, serving as a control mark or mint symbol.
