Obverse description Boeotian shield rendered in high relief, occupying the entire field; the characteristic cutouts at left and right sides of the shield are clearly defined, each terminating in a small volute or scroll ornament. The convex surface of the shield is rendered with bold, sculptural simplicity, emphasizing the distinctive shape that served as the federal emblem of the Boeotian League. No legend appears on the obverse. The flan is irregular in outline, typical of hand-struck coinage of this period.
