| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander III facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with curling locks of hair swept back from the forehead. A small horn of Ammon curls behind the ear, symbolising Alexander's claimed divine descent from Zeus-Ammon. The portrait is boldly struck in high relief with naturalistic facial modelling, the diadem ties visible at the nape of the neck. The field is plain, with no legend on the obverse. |
