Reverse description Within a deeply struck incuse square, a stylised bunch of grapes is centrally positioned, encircled by a sinuous ivy tendril bearing heart-shaped leaves, forming an elegant decorative wreath around the main device. The magistrate's name ΗΡΟΦΑΝΗΣ is distributed around the inner border of the incuse square, reading across the four sides. The incuse technique is characteristic of the Thraco-Macedonian coinage tradition to which Abdera belongs. The overall composition is well-centred and finely engraved.
