| Obverse description | Griffin seated left in profile, with both forelegs raised in a springing posture, displaying prominent folded wings with finely rendered feather detail and a ribbed chest. The creature's beak is open, its crest elaborately articulated, conveying vigorous movement in high relief. The city ethnic ΑΒΔΗ appears in the lower field, inscribed along the ground line beneath the griffin. The overall composition fills the broad flan in a bold, confident Thracian die-cutting style characteristic of Abdera's late fifth- to early fourth-century coinage. |
