Obverse description A recumbent lion depicted in left profile, its body lowered close to the ground line in a crouching or prowling posture with forelegs extended and mane rendered in bold, striated relief. Perched upon the lion's back is an eagle facing right, wings closed, its talons gripping the animal's haunches. The composition fills the flan dynamically, with both figures executed in vigorous high relief characteristic of Cypriote royal coinage of the fourth century BC. The field is plain and unlettered.
