Additional information

Dubnovellaunos is attested both on coins struck in Cantium (roughly modern Kent) and on a separate series issued by the Trinovantes to the north, a dual presence that has generated persistent debate about whether one ruler held authority across both territories or whether the name belonged to two distinct individuals. The Roman historian's record of a "Dubnovellaunus" appealing to Augustus — noted in the Res Gestae — adds a layer of political urgency to coins of this type that purely typological analysis cannot resolve.
