Obverse description Pomegranate rendered in high relief, displayed frontally on a short stem with two curved lateral leaves flanking the calyx; the fruit's globular body is prominent and naturalistically modeled, with the characteristic crown of sepals clearly delineated at the apex. The entire device is set within a shallow incuse circle, characteristic of the archaic coinage of Side in Pamphylia. The pomegranate served as the principal civic emblem of Side, and its bold, stylized rendering reflects the transitional archaic-classical artistic idiom of the mid-fifth century BC.
