| Reverse description | An amphora with ivy-leaf sprigs issuing from the mouth occupies the central field, rendered in precise relief with clearly articulated handles and a well-defined foot. Flanking the vessel to the left and right respectively are the Greek letters AP and KA, constituting the ethnic abbreviation for the Boeotian town of Arkesine or, more precisely in this context, the magistrate or ethnic designation ARKA. The composition is set within a shallow incuse square, and the overall engraving reflects the accomplished die-cutting characteristic of Theban silver coinage of the mid-fourth century BC. |
