| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena in three-quarter right profile, wearing a Corinthian helmet adorned with a prominent upright crest; the bowl of the helmet is decorated with a recumbent sphinx in relief. The portrait is rendered in the idealised Hellenistic style characteristic of Macedonian royal coinage, with fine detail in the facial features and helmet ornamentation. The field is plain and the flan is of irregular round form typical of the hammered Attic standard stater. |

| Reverse description | Nike, goddess of victory, standing left in full figure, her wings displayed; she holds a wreath extended in her raised right hand and a stylis (naval standard or sternpost ornament) in her lowered left hand. The legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs in the right field. Below the left wing appears the control mark Φ and below the right wing the control mark Μ, serving as mint or magistrate identifiers for this Babylon issue. The composition is characteristic of the canonical Alexander stater reverse type established during his reign. |
