Obverse description Pegasos in flight to left with distinctively curved wings; beneath the horse, a serpent coiled around a tortoise occupies the lower field. The figure of Pegasos is rendered in the vigorous archaic style characteristic of Corinthian-tradition coinage, with careful attention to musculature and wing detail. The incidental device below — the serpent and tortoise — serves as a distinguishing control symbol for this emission of the Ambracian mint.

Reverse description Head of Athena facing left, wearing a Corinthian helmet; the helmet crest is surmounted by a bull butting to left, a distinctive Ambracian device replacing the typical crest ornament. The goddess's hair falls long beneath the helmet, and the neck flap is notably absent. The entire design is rendered within an incuse square, consistent with western Greek hammered coinage of the fifth century BC. The letter A, identifying the issuing city of Ambracia, appears in the field.
