Side, a prosperous trading city on the Pamphylian coast, maintained a strikingly independent coinage throughout the fifth and fourth centuries despite Achaemenid dominance over much of Anatolia. The city's mint operated with unusual consistency during this period, producing staters that circulated widely across the eastern Mediterranean trade networks rather than remaining purely local. SNG France 639 and Atlan 67 place this piece within a well-documented sequence, though die linkage studies by Atlan identified significant variation across the emission groups within this narrow twenty-year window.
