| Obverse description | Eagle's head in close-up profile facing left, rendered in bold high relief with naturalistic detail typical of the Elean artistic tradition. The eye socket, beak, and feathering are crisply engraved, with fine incised lines delineating the plumage along the neck and crown. The eagle, sacred to Zeus, is the primary emblem of the sanctuary at Olympia. No legend or inscription is present in the field. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, characteristic of early fifth-century Peloponnesian coinage. |
