Reverse description The youthful hero Herakles depicted nude, kneeling to the left in a dynamic composition as he strangles the Nemean lion with both hands, the beast's body pressed beneath him. The hero's muscular form is rendered with considerable anatomical detail in the Classical Greek tradition. His club lies beneath the central group in the lower field. The scene alludes to the First Labour of Herakles and is characteristic of the civic iconography of Tarsos during the 4th century BC.
