Obverse description Laureate head of Zeus facing left, rendered with exceptional sculptural quality; his abundant curly beard and flowing long hair are finely detailed in the Tarentine artistic tradition. A laurel wreath crowns his head, its leaves clearly articulated in high relief. Behind the portrait, in the right field, the magistrate's mark NK in ligate monogram. The portrait exhibits the mature, powerful physiognomy characteristic of Zeus imagery in Magna Graecia coinage of the early third century BC.

Reverse description Eagle standing left with wings spread, perched upon a thunderbolt; at the eagle's feet, a small owl facing. In the upper field and to the right, the magistrate's signature ΣΩΚ. Below in the exergual area, the ethnic legend ΤΑΡΑΝΤΙΝΩΝ, identifying the issuing city of Tarentum. The eagle and thunderbolt together form the canonical reverse type of Tarentine gold coinage, emblematic of Zeus's sovereignty.
