| Obverse description | The Chimaira, the mythological fire-breathing creature emblematic of Sikyon, strides purposefully to the left atop a ground line, rendered in high sculptural relief with a muscular lion body, raised forepaw, and serpentine tail curling upward. A small wreath appears in the upper field above the creature's back, serving as a secondary symbol. The ethnic abbreviation ΣΙ (for Σικυώνιος) is inscribed in the lower field beneath the ground line, to the left of the Chimaira's hindquarters. The flan is broad and well-struck, showcasing the accomplished engraving style characteristic of the Sikyonian mint during the mid-fourth century BC. |
